Moving from a horse-sized bridle to something that actually fit Vino was a long-overdue priority. My previous bridle had been purchased for my former horse, Booker, and on Vino’s more petite frame, the proportions were just all wrong. We joked that it looked like he was "wearing his dad’s suit"—the length of the leather straps overwhelming, and the fit was sloppy.
Vino has a broad, flat forehead paired with a surprisingly large nose area. I was fully prepared to "Franken-bridle" something together by mixing and matching sizes, but I finally found a "one-and-done" solution last year.

A Chance Encounter with AJR Sport
It was pure happenstance that the founder of AJR Sport, Adam Rittenberg, was at The Farmhouse cabin in Tryon the week that Vino was competing. He was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, and it was immediately clear that his life spent competing in equitation and jumpers—learning from legends like the Millars and Paul Schockemöhle—is directly reflected in his designs. He is rightfully proud of this line; the level of detail is exactly what you’d expect from someone who has spent their life in the irons at renowned facilities worldwide.
Adam recommended that I try the AJR Sport Wide Noseband Hunter Bridle, and reassured me that the bridle would be a great fit for Vino.

Precision Fit Hunter Bridle
At $317 for the bridle and $186 for the matching reins, it is an investment that has immediately proven its value. What struck me first was the integrity of the sizing. In many lines, a "cob" fit feels like a slightly smaller full size, but with AJR, a cob is a true cob. It fits Vino’s refined features perfectly, with no more oversized cheekpieces or excessive leather.
The Leather: Following Adam’s specific advice, I have conditioned but never oiled the leather. While I was skeptical, the results speak for themselves. With regular use, the leather has darkened to a gorgeous patina that is buttery soft and looks stunning against his coat.
The Reins: These are a hidden gem. Lined with a discreet no-slip material, they provide a rock-solid grip without the bulky look of traditional rubber reins. They are a game-changer for those humid Georgia show days when you’re riding in the rein and need that extra security.
The Aesthetic: I get compliments on this bridle all the time. It provides that "big ring" presence with the wide noseband while staying true to his more diminutive proportions.
It is refreshing to support a small equestrian business that balances high-end technicality with traditional elegance. For any rider tired of the "close enough" fit, this bridle is a phenomenal investment in both style and horse comfort.
